Activities and events

With approximately 600 members, our activities and events range from regular meetings and conferences on Bilingualism and Education to popular children's events such as Halloween, Kids' Night Out and "Stars and Stripes" Party. Frequent social and cultural events are organized (at the AAWE reception room and in the Paris area) to bring the membership together such as the US Embassy Tea, Christmas Cocktail and June Garden Party. Our most popular committees and events are as follows:

Bilingualism and Education
AAWE offers its members in-house lectures on a broad range of common topics related to bilingualism and current concern. These include information sessions on the different levels of biculturalism in adults and children, schooling in France from CP in Primary to choosing a higher education institution and higher education abroad. A reference library dedicated to parenting, education and bilingualism is housed at the AAWE clubhouse.

As a community service, AAWE is one of the sponsors of Paris College Day, one of the largest education fairs in Europe.

AAWE joins other Paris organizations in sponsoring a biennial primary and secondary school fair, "Which School is Right for My Child?", where parents can consult with representatives from English and bilingual schools in the Paris area.
An Education Registry allows members to share information about schools in the Paris area as well as to provide support for parents of children with special educational needs.
AAWE members and their children are eligible to apply for the scholarships awarded by the Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas. Two summer study grants are awarded each year to members' children through the Richard R. Hallock Foundation.

Children's Activities
A wide range of parties, get togethers and informal gatherings make this a very active group. Events include the popular Halloween, Holiday with Santa, Easter Egg Hunt and Stars & Stripes parties for children up to 8 years old, as well as Kids Night Out events for the 8-12 year olds. Family outings such as the back to school baseball game and fall apple picking are also organized throughout the year.

Citizenship
AAWE has been a crusading force in support of legislation that permits U.S. citizens abroad to retain and transmit their nationality. We have joined with other international groups to defend the rights of Americans living outside the United States. A Citizenship Fact Sheet is regularly updated and available to members. Close ties are maintained with the American Embassy and Consular Division.

Seniors
Our active Seniors' Committee serves as a link between the senior members of AAWE. They organize two luncheons a year for the Seniors, in addition to lectures, discussions and day-trips that are of interest and open to all AAWE members. The recently set up Senior Caring Initiative aims at identifying and addressing the problems which may arise for Seniors or other members who may be in need of a friendly visit. PARC, the Paris American Retirement Community, is a project the committee is currently researching.

Career Corner
This volunteer service within the association for members only aims to coordinate forums to promote networking amongst members in addition to sharing counselling, advice and information on career development in France. Our resources are primarily the expertise that lies amongst the professional women within the club. Meetings are scheduled throughout the year.

Christmas Bazaar
Our annual two day Christmas Bazaar, drawing over 2000 visitors, serves as our principal fund-raising event both in support of our association and selected philanthropic grants.

Please take a look at our other working committees and special interest groups that meet on a regular basis.
