Who Are We?

AAWE was founded in 1961 to protect the citizenship rights of Americans married to Europeans and the children of these bicultural and bilingual families.

AAWE promotes American culture in this context and assists in resolving needs specific to its permanent resident membership.

AAWE strives to strengthen understanding among peoples of America, France and Europe on both a personal and cultural level.

Citizenship
AAWE has been a crusading force in support of legislation that permits U.S. citizens abroad to retain and transmit their nationality. It has joined with other international groups to defend the rights of Americans living outside the United States.

AAWE regularly updates its Citizenship Fact Sheet which is available to members. AAWE keeps close ties with the American Embassy and its Consular Division.

Publications
The AAWE Guide to Education, periodically updated, features a comprehensive listing of English language and bilingual French schools throughout France.
It includes explanations of the French educational system, after school and summer activities in English, a glossary of French terms and useful references.

Vital Issues: How to Survive Officialdom While Living in France offers information concerning important life issues confronting multicultural families living in France, such as marriage, divorce, retirement, care for the elderly, wills and inheritance, job hunting and real estate.

Let Them Eat Cake! Now in its second edition, this bilingual cookbook features 100 favorite American Dessert recipes! All your baking needs are covered, from cookies to pies, frozen desserts to recipes for kids, and let's not forget the cake!
Also included are several pages of useful tips and hints, and where to buy hard-to-find ingredients in France! They are going like hotcakes, get yours while they last!

The AAWE News, the club newsletter, informs members of upcoming events and along with the annual AAWE Membership Directory, facilitates club contacts. These publications are available to members only.

Bilingualism & Education
As a community service, AAWE is one of the sponsors of Paris College Day, one of the largest education fairs in Europe.

The College Day Committee also organizes financial aid workshops and publishes information regarding College Board tests.

AAWE joins other Paris organizations in sponsoring a biennial primary and secondary school fair where parents can consult with representatives from English and bilingual schools in the Paris area.

AAWE members and their children are eligible to apply for the scholarships awarded by the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas.

Two summer study grants are awarded each year to member’s children through the Florence Gould Foundation.

American Traditions: Social & Cultural Events
With approximately 600 members, our social activities range from the ever popular children’s events including Halloween, Kids’ Night Out and “Stars and Stripes” Party — to the US Embassy Tea, Christmas Cocktail and June Garden Party for the general membership.

Monthly social and cultural events are organized (at the AAWE clubhouse and in the Paris area) to bring the membership together. These include Book Club, Happy Hour, museum visits, luncheons, Western Suburbs Coffee Morning, etc.

Our active Seniors’ Committee functions as a network of support for our senior membership with lectures, special luncheons and day outings.

Our Career Corner Committee maintains a job bank and organizes events of interest to women within or exploring the possibilities of the job market in Europe.

AAWE has recently started a monthly art exhibition featuring the works of our members. Please stop by and take a look!

Take a look at our calendar for a listing of our events.

Fund Raising
Our annual three day Christmas Bazaar, drawing over 2000 visitors, serves as our principal fund-raising event both in support of our association and selected local philanthropic grants.

AAWE Membership
Regular membership is open to women who are U.S. citizens by birth or naturalization and who are or have been married to or living maritally with a citizen of a European country.

A limited number of associate memberships are open to individuals not fulfilling these requirements.
